- Palin is little more than a posable folk hero (say cheese!). She gained this status because the McCain camp, in a moment of weakness (delusion?), decided she had most of the right accessories ('cept the wardrobe), the right props (Alaska, guns, dead moose), plus a nice figure.

- The Democratic victory in upstate New York and the win of a moderate Republican in Virginia (who disavowed Palin's "helpful" robocalls) is enough for me to take heart. Who cares about political parties, it's all about having moderate, inclusive and thoughtful leaders. Now, Maine, that was a shame.
